Xmas holiday in Åre, Sweden - 2004
This is the second teaser. A few pics from my solo-outing of the classic off-piste run in Åre. That run is called 'Backsidan' (translates to backside) and there is about a zillion variations of it. I took the line that skiis the steepest upper part, but ends still in to frontside, where the lifts are.
The second line, I'm gonna share a few pics is located some 15 km from Åre. It doesn't really have a name, as it is just a short steep line, which is rarely in condition (usually it has a big cornice on top, or not enough snow).
The top of Åre-fjellet, notice the skier heading towards Backsidan (back side). I'll be skiing that way in a few secs.
This is the cafeteria at the top, as you can imagine it wasn't open.
That'll be me, with a few famous touring peaks roughly in the middle.
This is a close-up of the touring peaks, the name escapes me now but I'll edit 'em in as soon as I remember 'em.
A few marks on the upper part of the Backsidan, the snow was part powder, part crust.
The next mellower part, still some nice cruising though.
A pawprint of some local wildlife, jugging by the size, it's either a really big dog or more likely a wolf.
Another off-piste line, this one at Tegefjell. The line is steep but short, and much closer to the liftlines than Backsidan.
Managed to do a few turns in it. The average angle was about 42 degrees. Next time gonna launch from the cornice.
And this is the line from the top station of the T-bar in Tegefjell. There was some nice mellow wood skiing in the end as well.
